MCA Maintenance & Latest Version Status
HomeSoftware DevelopmentWeb DevelopmentConsultingTrainingContacting RDA

This page is intended for Alcatel staff using the RDA developed product, MCA. It also identifies the latest version of MCA released to Alcatel by RDA.

The latest version of MCA is version 3.4, delivered to Alcatel on Tuesday 1 October 2002

This may not be the latest version available to Alcatel staff due to the need for Alcatel to integrate MCA into the development environment. If you are not using the latest version listed above then please check within your organisation whether it is available to you or not.

If you suspect that you have discovered a defect in MCA please check that you are using the latest version available to you. If this isn't the case please check if the latest version exhibits the same defect before raising a fault report on MCA.

The User Guide for MCA is available from the help menu with MCA. It is delivered to Alcatel as an Acrobat pdf document. If you print this document please ensure you have chosen A4 as the paper size with your printer.

PC Version of MCA

We now have a PC (windows) version of MCA (and the CHILL2 Compiler) available. We can provide a time-limited version to Alcatel units for evaluation. Please note that that the PC version of MCA (and CHILL2) are not available to Alcatel under the terms of the current maintenance contracts and will require separate licencing from RDA.

MCA Version 3.4

Date of release to Alcatel

1 October 2002 (See Alcatel Delivery Note D#011481)

Reason for release

Implemented C#028056 (see known problems of version 3.3 below).

User Guide

The User Guide for MCA Version 3.4 is also Version 3.4. As with all releases the User Guide is accessible from the MCA User Interface. It is part of the release kit and is in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.

Solaris 8 Compliance

Versions of MCA from Version 3.3 onwards are fully compliant with Solaris 8. However MCA has to be associated with a version of the CHILL 2 Compiler which does some of the static analysis when you run MCA (It is known as the MCC Component within MCA). Versions of the CHILL 2 Compiler before CHILL2/386 V24.0 are not fully compliant with Solaris 8 although in testing they did seem to work.

Associated CHILL2

This MCA release is designed to work with CHILL2/386 25, also known as DC25, (for the MCC support) or later.

Known Problems

None.

MCA Version 3.3

Date of release to Alcatel

19 March 2002 (See Alcatel Delivery Note D#010805)

Reason for release

Fixed F#020739 (see below).

Please note that the User Guide for V3.2 also covers this version.

User Guide

The User Guide for MCA Version 3.3 is Version 3.2. As with all releases the User Guide is accessible from the MCA User Interface. It is part of the release kit and is in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.

Known Problems

Apparently the latest release of CRiSP (version 8) does not work correctly with MCA. This is not a fault in MCA but due to CRiSP releases not providing backward compatibility.

Whilst it is not a fault of MCA and therefore falls outside of the existing contract, RDA has, for the purposes of goodwill, decided to make a new release of MCA that will resolve this problem. This will be provided to Alcatel in early October 2002. Change Request C#028056 was raised to request a chance to MCA to work with the latest version of CRiSP.

Solaris 8 Compliance

MCA Version 3.3 is fully compliant with Solaris 8.

This MCA release is designed to work with CHILL2/386 24, also known as DC24, (for the MCC support) or later.

MCA Version 3.2

Date of release to Alcatel

7 February 2002 (See Alcatel Delivery Note D#010676)

Reason for release

Fixed F#020463 (MCA does not support batch run).

User Guide

The User Guide for MCA Version 3.2 is also Version 3.2. As with all releases the User Guide is accessible from the MCA User Interface. It is part of the release kit and is in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.

Known Problems

Fault

Description Workaround
F#020739 An error may occur when using  MCA batch facilities due to pathname length. The problem was found during the integration of MCA 3.2 into S12DEU which intends to utilise the batch facility for delta snapshots.

Theoretically it could occur in other situations, and with earlier versions of MCA, but due to the way MCA is integrated into S12DEU this is extremely unlikely.

To avoid the problem the absolute path to files (including the file name) being used with MCA needs to be made shorter. If you make the absolute path to files (including the file name) less than 70 characters you should find it works.

It isn't possible to be definitive about the length of the absolute path and filename as the size of the files being used (measured in source lines) is a factor in the calculation.
