*** Last Release: February 2005 V2.1 ***

A freeware Microsoft Windows-based utility written in C++ using Microsoft Visual C++. It has been tested under Windows 95, 98, NT4 (sp6) Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP.

Please note: CDDataExtract is not a CD or DVD Ripper. It doesn't "rip" music files off CD/DVDs or DVD files off DVDs.

V2.1 has the following changes:

1. Improvement to cope better with Multiple CDDataExtract.ini files.
2. Rebuilt with Visual Studio 2003 on Windows XP.
3. delete_limit and delete_name_<n> initialization file options added.
4. Help updated.
5. New deployment system used.
6. Fixes a problem with "connected" files, something that we only have knowledge of one user experiencing.

Its purpose is to act as a simple "mini-install" program useful for moving files off a data CD or DVD (optical drives) onto a user's hard disk. In the process it removes the read-only attribute of any files copied. Whilst it might work on some systems for audio CDs or video DVDs it isn't intended for that purpose.

The dialogue that users will see is:

The users chooses the source drive and can change, if required, the parent drive and directory path and specify the identity of the new directory into which extraction will occur.

The default behaviour of CDDataExtract can be changed by providing an ini file. The ini file allows control over the default drive and directory path; the creation of shortcuts on the desktop; the optional execution of a executable following extraction; to change the date of files (touch) extracted and finally, whether any files should keep their read-only attribute setting. For information on these and other options please look at the help file following installation of CDDataExtract.

When CDDataExtract is executed it provides a dialogue in which the user can select the source CD-ROM/DVD Drive and the destination drive, and select the name of the new directory. It then copies all files to the chosen directory. If the directory chosen already exists the user is warned and given the option to continue.

CDDataExtract uses "Compiled HTML Help" (.chm files). Most Windows installations can read .chm files. If you are unable to read the .chm help files you may update your system by visiting: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=30328.
